Outlook signatures attached to individual Contacts
Thank you for your good wishes.
As for the suggestion, if you knew me in "real" life, you would know that my
responses mirror how I interact with people with whom I work as well as the
public at large. While it is largely true that the written word is no
substitute for face to face communications, trust me that the tone I use
when speaking to someone face to face ALWAYS has a smile and a wink. Too
bad that it doesn't show here in news groups.
Just out of curiosity, for what product were you an MVP?

After furious head scratching, Jim D asked:
| Ok - well, that explains it then...so I guess I better start liking
| to use Word as my email editor lol!
|
| And, now, I'll make a kind suggestion back to you as an MVP (having
| been an MVP once in my lifetime) - perhaps you might make your
| "point" known, w/out sarcasm. The line about it being a "moot" point
| was unnecessary. This was my first visit to this forum and your first
| reply was taken w/a grain of salt (even though witty sarcasm oozed
| between the lines), but seeing your second sarcastic response, I feel
| it my duty to suggest that you might consider a class in Customer
| Service responses to improve your skills in that area. That is a
| kind, mere, suggestion, not one to flame you or deride your
| character.
|
| Overall, thank you for your information, I have so noted the upcoming
| change.
|
| Have a great and gracious day, Miley,

|| The next version of Outlook will use Word by default as the message
|| editor so your suggestion is a moot point. (not really full blown
|| Word but the "essence" of Word.)

|| After furious head scratching, Jim D asked:
||
||| Miley,
||| I'm using 2003 -- but I'm not sure what you mean by "right click on
||| the signature and choose another". Do you mean when the new or reply
||| email message window appears in Outlook 2003? If so, that didn't
||| work for me. And, are you meaning if I'm using Word 2003 as my email
||| editor? I opened up a new email w/Word 2003 as my email editor and
||| yes, that option is available in there...however, I prefer to use
||| Outlook 2003 as my email editor and I'm making that suggestion for
||| that product, not the Word email editor. If I'm still missing it in
||| my Outlook program, please point me in the right direction.
|||
||| Thanks for your response.
|||
|||| What version of Outlook are you using? If 2003, simply right click
|||| on the signature and choose another. I have over 50 signatures
|||| (yeah, I am a packrat!) and I can swiftly change what signature I
|||| use in a few seconds. (Note - you must be using Word 2003 for this
|||| to work.)

||||
|||| After furious head scratching, Jim D asked:
||||
||||| Even though I can create multiple signatures for
||||| new/reply/forwarded emails, the option is one for new &/or one
||||| for replies/forwards or none. However, if I create a business
||||| signature, a business reply signature, a friends/family
||||| signature, I either have to accept the same for all similar
||||| functions (i.e. -- replies, whether business or family must be
||||| the same signature). What would be nice is to have the ability to
||||| do the following:
|||||
||||| In the email contact, specify what signature I'd like to use for
||||| new, replies/forwards, &/or all, etc.
||||| *For example, my sister sends me an email. My current setting in
||||| the Signatures setup is to reply w/ "First & Last Name". However,
||||| my sister does not need my last name. Sure it's simple enough to
||||| scroll down and erase my last name after completing my email, but
||||| that negates the pupose of the automation. OR, I could opt for "no
||||| signature" in the Signature setup and insert it from the Insert
||||| drop down menu, which is unnecessary movement. OR, I could use
||||| the Insert drop down menu to insert the signature for my family
||||| and then erase the automatic "First & Last Name" signature I
||||| originally set up in the Signatures setup menu - one more time,
||||| why automate if I have partially negate.
|||||
||||| **My suggestion is to provide a place in the Outlook contact
||||| information section for me to assign specific signatures for
||||| individual contact members. Using my sister example again. In my
||||| sister's information contact card, I should be able to assign a
||||| new message signature and a reply/forward message signature for
||||| her card. Similar for every contact in my address book. However,
||||| if I choose NOT to assign a signature for certain contacts, the
||||| signature I assigned in the setup menu under Options would be
||||| applied to emails as stipulated for new, reply, forward, etc.
|||||
||||| ***If this could not be added to the Contact info card, then I'd
||||| suggest being able to create a rule for this scenario. Rule
||||| starts: 1) sister name is in the From section of a received email
||||| - check that condition, 2) reply with specified signature - thus
||||| allowing me to select which signature I'd like to apply to
||||| replies/forwards to my sister. Should be simple to set up for
||||| each contact I'd like to apply specific signatures to their
||||| emails.
|||||
||||| ****Last, if the above are NOT possible, then create a dedicated
||||| keystroke for signatures. Therefore, I'd select "None" for
||||| signatures to be applied to new or reply/forward emails. Once an
||||| email had been completed, I'd bring up the signature options and
||||| click to insert which signature was appropriate.
|||||
||||| This would be a great feature to have for the signatures portion,
||||| as I love having as much automation as possible or simplified
||||| keystroking -- less mouse movement. Typing and then having to move
||||| to the mouse and then back to the keyboard is not efficient.
|||||
||||| Let me know what you think of my suggestion(s) OR if I am unaware
||||| of an automation already in place.
|||||
||||| Thanks
