Hi David,
There is likely damage/corruption in an OE message store file. This type of
issue often involves the master indexing file, Folders.dbx. Try renaming or
deleting the file. If not successful try moving all the files to another
folder -- leaving the OE message store folder empty. The new backup folder
could be on the desktop and named Mail Backup. It may be possible to later
import or recover messages from this folder.
First close Outlook Express.
Rename the Folders.dbx file:
1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
2. In the Named box, type folders.dbx. Include hidden files and
folders for Windows XP.
3. In the Look In box, click your primary hard disk (usually drive
C), and then click Find Now.
4. Right-click the Folders.dbx file, and then click Rename.
5. Type folders.old, (or delete the file) and then click OK.
6. Start Outlook Express. This creates a new Folders.dbx file
automatically.
See Inside OE to understand what will occur when Folders.dbx is replaced.

Open the Store Folder Alternative
Not useful now, but may be helpful information in the future.
1.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store
Folder.
2.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder.
3.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end.
4.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy.
5.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store
folder.

An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to
highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run
and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily
modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options.

I am using Windows XP SP2. I have just began using OE. I imported a number
of
messages from Outlook, plus the address book. I think it worked once or
twice
after importing the messages, but it cannot be opened now. I have
uninstalled
it and reinstalled it. My computer has 1 GB of RAM and 50 GB free space on
disk. It gives the following two error messages:
"OE could not be opened. The application was unable to open the OE message
store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Contact
Mirrosoft support ... 0X800C0, 5"
"Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be
initiallized. OE may not be installed properly."
I would like to be able to open OE, even if I lose the imported mail and
address book entries.
Please help.
