Turn off the e-mail scanning in your anti-virus.

You are still protected:

If you have an Anti-Spam program, that can also be the cause of the error.

Hi,
when I do a send/receive, I get the following error message:
"Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds. WOuld you like to
wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?" with a "Wait" and
"Stop" options.
Nothing happens if I click on Wait. If I click on Stop, I get:

"A time-out occurred while communicating with the server.
Account:"pop3.domain.us". Server: "pop3.domain.us", Protocol: "POP3,
Port 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19"

Same error repeats under it for smtp.

I appreciate yoour assistance.
