When I send a .jpg attachment, yes, in Create Mail I click on the paper clip
that also has the word Attach. :When I'm referring to what I received,
under the From-Date-To-Subject, is Attach with a window and that's where he
had all those .jpgs.
No, he doesn't have AOL or Compuserve, he has Comcast and I don't know what
e-mail format or program he uses. I did ask him about these pics, though,
after I asked my question in this NG, and he said he sent them that way,
i.e. NOT in the body of the e-mail.
So, thanks, but it seems I didn't have any problem on my end, it's just that
he sent them that way.

What do you consider the Attach Window? The paper clip?
If they were sent as attachments, they should be after the message body,
regardless how big it was, and there should be a thin gray line between
the message body and the attachment.
Were these pix sent to you by an AOL user? If so, and they were forwarded,
then you have to click on the attachment code in the header for as many
times as it has been forwarded.
This is a canned message of mine regarding this:
If they are from an AOL or Compuserve user, (some other servers are
changing too), they may be layered as many times as it has been
forwarded. When you open an attachment and only see a blank page, keep
putting the cursor on the text in the attachment line / Right click /
Open, or double click. Keep doing this and you'll eventually get to the
original attachment and be able to view it.
You can also highlight the message header and press Ctrl & F3 to just read
the text of the message.

Bruce, there wasn't any message body other than a brief comment about the
pictures. But no pictures after that. And no, I hadn't done anything
to the registry.

If they were Inserted, they are in the message body. If they were
Attached, they will be visible *after* the message body unless you did a
reg hack such as this:
See this article about disabling automatic viewing of graphic
attachments:

Someone just sent me several .jpg images. They open OK from the Attach
window, but usually they show up in the body of the e-mail. I haven't
changed any settings, but I can't remember where to look to make sure
that they DO show in the e-mail itself.
