If you manually open an attachment in OE, a copy gets placed in the
Temporary Internet Files (TIF).

The other way that OE can places files in the TIF is if you are viewing
HTML format messages. Images and content from the message would go to
the TIF. Images should be safe. As for other content, make sure that
OE is running in the Restricted Zone (Tools, Options, Security). You
can also set OE to Read All Messages In Plain Text (Tools, Options,
Read).

Several times my cox security virus software has given me an alert
saying that it detected a virus in temp internet files (while I was
looking at my mail). I deleted my temp files and the problem
disappeared and a scan showed no virus in my computer.. I only open
mail that I know reasonable certain is safe from know senders. I was
wondering if in OE the preview of a mail is actually allowing a virus
all it needs to do damage to my computer? Yolanda
