K9 and SpamPal are freeware, but I don't have any first hand knowledge of
any spam program in particular. I believe having multiple programs would
cause problems though.

Is there any advantage to using multiple spam blockers for OE6?
Currently employ POPFile which sets Tools/Accts/Properties/Server at
127.0.0.1 for POP3 server and while identifying lots of spam I am
required to daily empty the Deleted File.
Would like to add another blocker capable of blocking spam from being
downloaded to the account. Is this possible and is there a 'free'
download available?
Tech level is limited here so request 'layman's explanation, please.
