adding contacts & replying to emails not working
Can't reproduce your problem You seem to be mistaking autocompletion for
autoresolution. Read about the difference:

Outlook Address Book service is installed and working, so I tried to
document
more precisely what is happening.
** "REPLY TO" Problem **
Case 1: If the incoming email show the "from" field as name@domain,
then
"reply to" works because name@domain is put into the "to" field of the
reply message.
Case 2: If the incoming email shows the "from" field as a person's name
(like "Steve Smith") AND that person is already in my contact list, then
"reply to" works.
Case 3: However, if the incoming email shows the "from" field as a
person's
name (like "Steve Smith") and that person is NOT already in my contact
list
then "reply to" does not work because "Steve Smith" goes into the "to"
field
and is not resolved into an email address. (The "check names" box pops up
when I hit send).
What's interesting about this case is that in the reply message area the
system includes the original email text plus the header at the top:
From: Steve Smith [mailto:stevesmith@domain]
So, it "knows" the sender's address. It just doesn't use it.
*** ADDING SENDER TO CONTACTS problem ***
Sometimes, the right click on the "from" name shows the correct context
choices and sometimes it does not. I can't figure out what the common
denominator is. For example,
shows it fine.
does not. Email from some people already on my contacts
list
works, email from others does not.
*** Creating new email problem ***
This seems to be related to the first two problems. Sometimes, when I type
a
name from my contact list in the "to" field, it doesn't "resolve" into a
valid email address unless I hit ctrl K and then pick it from the list.
Then, the next time it will work fine.
Shouldn't these resolve automatically?
Thanks

I suspect you do not have the Outlook Address Book Service installed and
functioning correctly. See if you do. Method varies with Outlook version,
which you did not post.

Is there some reason why the "add to address book" or "add to contact
list"
would not appear when I open an email message and right click on the
sender
name?
Related to this (I think) ... if I hit reply and try to send a message
back,
it can't resolve the address of the sender, i.e., the email address is
not
automatically determined.
FYI ... I'm a new user migrating from Outlook Express.
Thanks
