Default How come Outlook won't set reminders even though item is in Cal?

In Calendar, Outlook won't let me set reminders to saved appointments because
"the item is not in your Calendar or Task folder." What does this mean? How
do I get into the correct folder?
Same thing happens with Activites tab in Contacts because "Contacts folder
can't be found."
