It's used when you reply inline to messages from others - so you know who
made which comment. It's very helpful when multiple people are commenting in
an email exchange.

Yes that's it. Thanks a lot.
BTW, I wonder who would ever like a function like that. Perhaps someone
who never makes edits in his reply (most *every* time your name appears).
Perhaps narcissistic people who like to see their own name.J
