When opening OE, the most recent message comes up open,
but no message list appears.


One interpretation of this symptom description would be that the user
is looking at a maximized Preview pane. That could be useful provided
the user is aware of it. E.g. create a button for the Preview pane to toggle
it off and reveal the full message list.

The first message must be deleted before any other - the next most
recent - opens. With 1000 messages, she'd like to purge her inbox before
she'sa great grandma. Help?? Note, she's already been on the phone with 2
levels of 'help' and is still stuck with one message at a time and no list to
select from.
