Default Purpose of "Delete Expired Items" in Outlook Auto-archive Window?

Mark S. Mark wrote:

We are running an Exchange 2003 server with Outlook 2003 clients. I
recently set up the general autoarchive function and checked the
"Delete Expired Items" and "Archive or Delete Old Items" boxes,
assuming that outlook would copy items older than my specifications
to the directory of my choice, and then delete the same items from
the mailbox folders. However, this doesn't appear to be happening. It
looks like a number of users' archive files do not contain the emails
they should contain. I have since gone back and unchecked the "Delete
Expired Items" box, but wanted to verify that in fact, these items
were not getting archived, but rather deleted. Thanks.

In order for an item to be considered "expired", you must have modified it
to be expired. Right-click a message, choose Options, and check the
"Expires after" option.
