Default Cannot find a contact in my list of contacts OL 2003

A lot of folks overlook the fact that Contacts Folders have very robust
sorting and filtering features. That is the venue the developers intended
for us to use to view Contact information.
Many people still try to use the address book view for that. Big mistake.
The address book was abandoned by developers several versions ago and has no
features for filtering, sorting or customizing the display.

Thanks Russ for that reminder that I could sort on another field, like
Last name.

No. For some reason, those preferences will only apply to new Contacts
you create in the Contacts Folder. They will not apply to Contacts you
add programmatically or by importing.
You can sort your Contacts Folder any way you want. You are not obligated
to sort it by the File As... field.

Thanks Russ. Yes, it was stored in the same folder that I was
"scanning". I had changed the order in which the "File as" field was
listed to showing "last name, first name" but when I used the feature
"Add to Outlook Contacts" it added it with First name then Last name.
Is there, by chance, any way to change the name order used in "File as"
by this feature so that it adds records with the order "last name, first
name"? Thanks for your help.

We could have no idea what you mean by "scanning down the list of
records in the Contacts screen."
Care to guess how many different views of Contacts are possible?
Have you verified that you are "scanning" the same folder to which you
added this Contact?

I received an email from a friend and wanted a record with his email
address in my Contacts list. So, I hovered the mouse over his email
address at the top of the email message, saw the dot with the arrow to
the right, then I clicked the down arrow. This gave me the choice to
add his name and address to my Contacts file, which I did. Now I can
find his record by clicking the same dot next to his name and chosing
"look up contact", or by typing his name in the space next to the
"find" button. However, I cannot find it scanning down the list of
records in the Contacts screen.

Why can I not find this new record in my Contacts screen?
Thanks for your help, in advance.
Bob
