I tried reducing security to the lowest level and still get the same
message.

I'm not sure of what you mean by your version may not support those
controls, or there is an error in the code

So change the security settings for active-x, reduce your security. Keep
reducing until you have none and if the error continues either your
version may not support those controls, or there is an error in the code.
