"freeway29",

OE has to be open to get e-mail notification. It can be minimized to the
Taskbar, but must be open.

Can an air-conditioner cool you if it is not running? Same thing.

i know you got a sound and a tray icon but the only way you see that is
when
you hit your email button to open outlook express 6 and then it checks it
and
lets you know if theres any new mail, what i want to know does it check
it
and let you know without you having to open up the program.

And you can change the sound by going to Control Panel | Sounds and
setting
the new mail notification.

For more detailed types of notifications, both auditory and visual, see

Hey wouldnt it be nice if they added a feature in outlook express 6
to
alert you of new emails hmm that would be good.

Hello freeway,

I see that everyone is telling you that OE has what you looking for,
but no one is telling you how to activate the Option.

Try this and see if works:

In OE, click on Tools/Options/General tab,
have a choice under the Options "Send/Receive Messages"

Good Luck, x@y
