Highlight one, then go to the end and while holding the Shift key, click on
the last message you wish to delete (to highlight them all), then just press
the delete key.

these but I can't figure out how to delete them en masse. I can delete
them one at a time but this is obviously an exercise in futility!

How can I delete, say, the oldest 10 or 20,000 messages at one time?
