Default Triggering Junk Mail filter

Thank you for your reply Diane.

Perhaps I should elaborate - the third party product sits between the
Internet and our Exchange 2003 Server (ie not on the PC's running Outlook),
in which case it would be possible to manipulate the message before it gets
'inside' the email system. Does that have any bearing on the issue? Might
Microsoft consider this as a feature request if it cannot be done currently?

no, it's not possible to 'trigger' the junk filter for testing, except by
receiving new mail. you can certainly make a rule to delete anything with
[spam] or whatever in the subject line or header.
