Default Triggering Junk Mail filter

Thanks. I do the same for messages that are certainly junk based on several
RBL's and similar weapons in the toolkit. I was hoping that those messages
that might be junk but score a little bit under the 'definate' level might
still be allowed in, but destined for the Junk E-mail folder for user action.
Oh well shrug. I'll find a way to work around it. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your reply Diane.

Perhaps I should elaborate - the third party product sits between the
Internet and our Exchange 2003 Server (ie not on the PC's running
Outlook),
in which case it would be possible to manipulate the message before it
gets
'inside' the email system. Does that have any bearing on the issue? Might
Microsoft consider this as a feature request if it cannot be done
currently?

no, it's not possible to 'trigger' the junk filter for testing, except by
receiving new mail. you can certainly make a rule to delete anything with
[spam] or whatever in the subject line or header.

Due to a huge increase in junk mail in the past few weeks I have
configured a
third-party product as a spam filter. It works well, but to get it to
play
happily with Outlook it seems necessary to create a rule for every
mailbox
so
that a particular header is checked, then the spam that would have
escaped
the default junk mail filtering is moved to the Junk E-mail folder.

Assuming I can add headers and prefix the subject line, is there a way
I
can
make Outlook 2003 SP2 recognise mail as spam and have it trigger the
normal
junk mail filter? I imagine that for testing purposes there is such a
feature
built in.
