Expected. Autocompletion has nothing to do with your Contacts. It has to do
with the cache of names to which you've sent messages. Yours is blank.

I transferred my Contact file to a new computer. The contacts do show but
when I try to auto complete an email message there are no addresses

I did right click the properties for the contacts folder and made sure
"Show
this folder as an E-mail Address Book" was checked and it is. Any other
suggestions?
