Default FAQ

Tools | Options | Read - Uncheck: Get XXX Headers at a time. All new headers
will be downloaded in the future. You may have to kick start it and go to
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Clean Up Now. Select the newsgroup at the
top and then Reset. This will remove all your messages and then download all
that are available on the server.

If you want to download newsgroups, but don't want hundreds, or thousands,
of messages, you can create a message rule such as this:

Tools | Message Rules | News.

Box 1: Where the message was sent more than days ago
Box 2: Delete it & Stop processing more rules
Box 3: Click on "Days" and choose the # of days you want.
Name the rule.

When you go to, or subscribe to a newsgroup, it will only download the
messages for the number of days you selected.

Opinions on this vary, but in Tools | Accounts | News | Properties |
General, I have Include this account when checking for new messages checked.
When OE automatically checks for mail, (however often you have it set for),
it will also download any new news messages at the same time. No Sync
needed.

Thanks for the replies. My problem just started recently whereas the group
details under Folders shows unread messages, but there are no unread
messages in the messages pane. I have had isolated occurrences of this in
the past, but every group I subscribe to is now showing unread messages. I
have synced all groups, set sync to All Messages, have no rules or ignored
users. I've increased the message downloads to 500 and even after using
Catch up on all groups, the next sync will most likely show unread
messages.

TIA,

John

Is there an FAQ for this group? I'm trying to resolve a problem using
OE6 as newsreader.
Thanks,
John
