Bruce,
The download started but with emails dated to Oct 05. I have delegated the
delivery option to remove from the server after 15 days and also to delete
from the server after deleting from the Deleted items folder. Can you tell
me what to do to avoid all these emails short of contacting the ISP and
asking them to do it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks again...

If Send/Receive doesn't get them, then close and reopen OE. If you still
don't get them, you have your backup, but send a test message to yourself
to make sure you get that message, and only that message.

I deleted the Pop3uidl.dbx as directed and the messages haven't
downloaded again yet, and I emptied my inbox to a separate folder. Do I
close OE and reopen it to get the new download?

Your settings are fine, although the least amount of days is best.
I assume you didn't delete the Pop3uidl.dbx file yet since you ask about
deleting the Inbox messages.
They should be downloaded again, but let's play it safe. Create a new
folder and move all your Inbox message to it. Assuming you get them
downloaded again, you can just delete the entire new folder. Much easier
then deleting duplicates in the same folder.

Thanks Bruce,
Do I delete all the messages in my INBOX or just get the duplicates and
sort them out later. What settings should I have selected as far as the
server goes. I indicated in my original message how I had it set up.
Thanks again...

The Pop3uidl.dbx file is probably corrupt. Delete it as per the
instructions below. You will get all the messages downloaded one more
time, but it should be good after that.
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location
of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the
folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will
put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files.
Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows
Explorer.
In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by
default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you
must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel
| Tools | Folder Options | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools |
Folder Options | View.
With OE closed, find the DBX file in question {Pop3uidl.dbx} and
delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.
General precautions for Outlook Express:
Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and
move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep
user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is
feasible.
After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually
while working *offline* and do it often.
Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders
are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in
the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch
anything until the compacting is completed.
Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of
problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your
up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For
more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in
background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

I keep getting messages from 2005 and early 2006 downloaded from my
server. I have checked the boxes Remove from server after 15 days and
remove from server after deleted from deleted items folder. How can I
stop this from happening? I have asked that messages be left on the
server for 15 days but I am getting close to 10,000 emails downloaded
everytime I click send and receive. Thanks in advance..
