...however, it works when I search the delete or any other folder. The MS
site turned up the following possibility, but it does not apply...

(IMAP) e-mail account, and your connection to this account is dropped.

The sent folder is the only one causing issues....
I've got 200GB free and 2MB RAM. What cause this problem?
