upon opening O E and connecting I get the following message:

The host 'mail.ev1.net' could not be found. Please verify that you have
entered the server name correctly. Account: 'nancc', Server: 'mail.ev1.net',

what is this error message trying to tell me and what should I do about it
what do I do to clear it?

The message is telling you that mail.ev1.net is not the correct address
of your provider's POP3 server. You need to ask your provider for their
POP3 address, or simply ask them how to setup your email program to use
their service.

Given her posting email address, and the fact that 'mail.ev1.net'
displays a banner when I Telnet to port 110, I'd guess that you are
wrong.
