Balky Newsgroups Loads

After uninstalling Norton Internet Security, I notice my Newsgroups links
on OE now take up to a minute to load messages, versus about 10 seconds
before. I also find that when closing my browser and shutting down, I am
now getting a window, End Program - SVCHost, with a progress bar and an
[End Now] button. Are these somehow connected? Any suggestions as to how
to get back to normal before I decide on and load a different antivirus
software?
