Unfortunately, Groups and Folders are keyed to specific identities and
that's the main reason why they do not import or export. Windows Mail in
Vista does not use identities so this will not be a problem if you ever
upgrade to Vista, although you might miss the features that identities can
serve. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks, Jim, although I have to say that's pretty lame. With all the
amazing
things Windows can do, I can't understand why MS didn't make groups part
of
the export process.

Folders and Groups neither export or import. What you can do is create a
new address book on the computer that has the old book with all the
folders
and groups and copy/paste the contacts from the old book into the new
book
in the Shared Contacts folder. Then copy that new address book with all
the
contacts in the shared folders to your new computer and re-arrange the
contacts into the folders and groups you wish.
To create a new address book, just click Start/Run and type: WAB /new
Please note there is a space between WAB and the slash for new. Give the
new book a name and location to be stored in and you're on the way. Good
luck.

Jim-
I just noticed that the address book which I imported into my new
computer
doesn't have any of the groups. How can I get those?

You've basically done all that's needed. With XP, if a file is
blocked,
taking "ownership" of the file is usually all that's required. To
read
more
about it, click Start/Help and Support and enter "ownership" in the
search
block. Glad you got the info you needed and thanks for the feedback.

Jim-
You helped me solve the problem in a slightly different way. When I
right-clicked on the file and clicked on properties to see if it
were
a
read-only file, it was not, but a warning said that the file was
blocked
because it came from another computer (I had e-mailed it from one
computer
to the other rather than using a sneaknet.) It offered me the option
to
unblock the file, and when I did so, it asked me for a location to
find
the
file, and then everything else went properly, and I see all my
addresses
on
my new computer. Maybe if I'd copied it onto a flash drive and
hand-carried
it over, this would not have happened.
So thank you! Now, what options can I set in OE so that it doesn't
block
anything else?

Try opening the Address Book and use its menu to do the import from
the
CSV
file. Click Start/All Programs/Accessories/Address Book. One
other
reason
may be if you copied the CSV file to a CD, which sets a "Read-Only"
attribute which needs to be cleared before you can import, i.e.,
you
need
to
copy the file to a folder on your hard drive and clear that
attribute
before
attempting an import.

I'm trying to export the address book from OE 6.00.2600 (Win98SE)
and
import
it into OE 6.00.2900 (Win XP), but I get an error on the import
side.
I'm able to export the address book into a CSV file, but the new
OE
doesn't
accept it. Just says "Error importing to the address book." It
doesn't
even
ask me to select the correct CSV file.
Thanks for any help,
Bobbi
