Default how do i see what is inside of my .pst outlook files?

dear limey, i know what a comma delineated file is, and what it looks like in
excel. however, i am unable to locate data stored inside of my ms-backed up
..pst outlook 2003 files, i have no idea how to even see it.

i think i have lost my contact database which i do think would have been
backed up when i prepared to get another hard drive. this would be the .pst
file for outlook 2003 contacts. do you know if it would have been backed up
when i performed the ms full backup? if so, how can i retrieve it from the
external hard drive backup and then put it onto this new hard drive?

else, i don't know how to find other data, such as email, notes, calendar
items, etc., that i have used in the past on my old hard drive and are most
likely (if i performed the ms-full backup the right way) on that external
hard drive.

i want to restore all of the information contained in my old outlook 2003
..pst files that i think are within file(s) on my external hard drive.

i am very confused about knowing even what program to use to open the
variety of .pst files that i wish to restore to this hard drive.

thank you kindly, karen/igora

i am not able to understand how .pst backup files work.

i am not able to see what data is kept in my .pst files.

i have no idea how to restore data from my .pst files from an ms full
backup
on an external hard drive to a new hard drive.

i do not want to code anything to do the above, and i did not underestand
what OL and OI were anyway.\

how to i get my address book back from my external hard drive in order to
put it into the same office 2003 program, i.e., outlook.

thanks a lot for layman's terminology
