I just got back from a long vacation and I downloaded all the latest
updates
from Microsoft Update. Today I noticed that when I tried to click on a
link
in a daily Los Angeles Times headlines newsletter I got an error message
that says "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect
on this computer. Please contact your system administrator"
I am my system's administrator and I have no idea what was happening since
the error message header reads "Microsoft Office Outlook" and I have not
changed any security settings for months. I Googled the problem and found
a
Microsoft Support Article 310049 that offered two solutions. The first
and
simplest solution was to "Reset Web Settings" from inside the
Tools/Programs
applet of IE, unfortunately that didn't work. The next solution was to
import the registry key
"HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\htmlfile\shel l\open\command" from a
good computer. I have 4 computers here and none of them has any such
registry key as that listed in the support article. Three computers have
Windows 2000 Pro. installed and the other has XP Sp2 installed.
Can someone enlighten me on this one???
