Default is preview pane safe?

using win 98se, dell xpst-450 desktop, 7 yrs old. pentIII, 450mhz, 384
ram,
13 gig drive, I.E. 6.0., O.E. 6.0

somewhere in my first use of machine i read somewhere that preview pane
should be turned off so email cannot be partially viewed. my friend is
using
his. i didn't realize you only single click the message to view it in
pane.
is this a safe way to use the preview pane since you're not double
clicking
the email?

just an inquiry.

thank you, len kiesling

The Preview Pane is no different from double clicking a message to open it
in its own window.
