Prevent outlook from automatically adding meeting requests
 

According to
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/as...276781033.aspx, there is a
wonderful "feature" called the "sniffer" which automatically adds meeting
requests to my calendar when they get in my inbox.

Is there no way to turn it off? What if I don't *want* meeting requests to
be automatically added. There isn't a way for me to tell Outlook that I'm
not so stupid that I need a "fail-safe to keep you from missing the meeting
in case you don't see the request in your Inbox."?

Please advise!

And one other piece of information - the meetings are not getting "accepted"
automatically - I have the check box for that turned off, and the "accept"
message doesn't get sent - it's just getting added to my personal calendar
(which I don't want it to do unless I explicitly accept the meeting)

Are they being accepted or just added as tentative? You can't stop them from
being added as tentative - this way you (and others) know if someone is
requesting your presence in that same period before they book another
appointment.

They are just being added as tentative...and I find it hard to believe that
there isn't a way to turn it off. That's ridiculous.

I have a personal email account which I check using an IMAP server
periodically, and I do not want my personal appointments being added to my
calendar - even as "tentative"...

Who is Outlook to decide what *I* want to put on my *OWN* calendar? I guess
I'll just have to use Thunderbird to check my personal account...too bad that
a commercial product - which I paid good money for - can't do something as
simple as allowing me to check multiple accounts without messing everything
up.

This, by the way, is new in Outlook 2003 - I didn't have this bug in Outlook
XP. Thank you very much for the information though.

I thought that turning off the "Process..." settings in Tools | Options | E-mail Options | Tracking Options disabled the sniffer.
