Can Outlook be used as an interactive desktop calendar?

By this I mean I want it to automatically open when I open my computer and be
ready to use whenever I go back to my desktop. I'd like to be able to stick
it on a certain part of my desktop and have it remain and ready to use
whenever I go to my desktop.
