Default I can no longer make daily scheduling additions to my calendar

Normally when I opened up a day on my calendar I could double click on a time
and would get an appointment window.
Now the appointment window does not open and I can no longer make any
additions or changes to any of my calendars from any month.
I can open someone elses shared calendar and open an appointment window for
a specific time.
