Right click menu
Right click on the item and drag it to the Date Navigator - drop it on the date and select Copy or Move from the right click menu.

In the end I managed to do precisely what you suggested and of course it worked ! Up till then I was trying to do my version - what I thought you had advised - and SURPRISE SURPRISE - much furious head scratching !!!
