Calendar reminder does not work even though it's turned on
 

This worked, which was great, but does anyone know why this happens?

Try starting Outlook with the /resetfolders and /cleanreminders switches. In
the Start, Run dialog:

outlook.exe /resetfolders /cleanreminders

Then press Enter. See if that helps.

It could be a lot of things. Some synch software corrupts the hidden
Reminders folder or create duplicates of it, those switches fix that
problem. Other things can corrupt the MAPI property that tells Outlook where
the Reminders folder is located, /resetfolders resets those pointers.
