How do I change the reminder default for "events"?

... I too have been looking at the default time for events. Because I have synced three different sources I have alarms going off a 23:45 as well as 06:00. I think the easiest way to sort this out is for the default alarm time to be set to the User's working hours setting I used to have this function when I used my Psion 5mx so it is possible. You'll have to contact Microsoft directly and tell them that if you hope to ever see it. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
How do I change the reminder default for "events"?
Dear Mr. Tillman:
One can indeed change the reminder of one's own all-day appointments to a more suitable advance notice, or disabled default reminders altogether, but for the users in my organization, most of whom use Windows Mobile devices, it is too much to ask for the to change the reminder of every all-day meeting request they receive as well! Especially since they are not even given the option to change it in the invitation e-mail. They would have to accept the invitation, then go to the calendar, open the same item again and then change the reminder. Microsoft's combination of... 1. Enabling default reminders by default [sic] 2. Allowing for the user's changing of only one out of two default reminder times 3. Allowing the meeting organizer's reminder setting to override the invitee's default preference without any visual cues or an easy way to change said reminder when receiving the invite 4. Choosing to set the almost idotic hard coded default reminder to 06:00 (-18 h) for an all-day appointment 5. Not hearing user complaints for the last, say, five years ....is quite depressing for its customers. Especially for the ones using Windows Mobile and getting woken up by reminders for appointments they did not even organize. How do I change the reminder default for "events"?
[Sorry for my two grammar mistakes there in the first paragraph of my
previous post.] Dear Mr. Tillman (again): I just read similar posts from you in the Outlook Forum over at office-outlook.com, and I can but conclude that you do not work in a large organization where you frequently receive meeting requests from others, with reminders set. Or maybe you do not have a Windows Mobile device waking you up; or maybe you are up and about at 06:00 every day (including Sundays, in case you receive all-day meeting requests for Mondays). Sorry about getting fresh, but judging from your previous posts, it seems you are all into that thing. :o) Sincerely, Jonas |

Your conclusion would be wrong. I work for a company with 300,000 employees and I usually accept (or reject) 15 to 20 meeting requests each week. I have always had the ability to override the reminder BEFORE accepting the request and I always change it to suit myself if I don't like what the request contains. Or maybe you do not have a Windows Mobile device waking you up; or maybe you are up and about at 06:00 every day (including Sundays, in case you receive all-day meeting requests for Mondays). I do have a Windows Mobile device and it never wakes me up because I always mute it before going to bed. It takes all of two seconds. Dear Friends,
You guys are lucky you get it at 6 am in the morning. I'm in India and I get it at 12 midnight (Windows Mobile). It's quite disappointing to know that Microsoft did not provide any solution to this - usually they keep all sorts of settings in the registry and this one couldn't have been any more difficult.
