Can I turn off in-caledar editing?

When using the calendar in the month view, I'd like to know if there is a way
to "lock" the calendar? (In the same way you'd lock the windows xp taskbar)
To clarify, when I sellect an appointment or event the cursor appears so I
can edit the subject; thats what i dont want. Thanks.
