We have an iCal server at work, and I'm trying to connect, but when I enter
the path - webcal://[IP
Addressort]/principals/users/[username]/[username].ics in Data File
Management/Internet Calendars/New, there is an instantaneous (like it's not
even looking for it) message saying "Cannot verify or add the Internet
Calendar in Outlook. Verify the link is a valid calendar link". This is the
very same path that works fine on my Mac to connect, so I know it is valid.
The firewall is not restricting Outlook as far as I can see, and as I said,
the message comes up so fast it's like Outlook is not looking for the
calendar, it's just spitting the link path back at me for some reason. Any
ideas?

This is in Outlook 2007, correct? Can you browse to the calendar and
subscribe to it? Did you try using http://ipaddress/ ?

Diane: Yes, I am using Outlook 2007. I'm not sure what you mean by "browse to
the calendar"? My understanding of adding internet calendars is that the URL
path must start with "webcal://" and point to a .ics file. I've tried using
http://[path] in File/Data File Management/Internet Calendars/New but it
gives me the same response.

When I look at my subscribed internet calendars, I see this format for the
address:
http://www.mobilegeographics.com:81/ical/6937.ics

I added them all by going to a website and choosing the subscribe link. If I
hover the subscribe link, it says webcal:// - but once added to outlook it
uses http to update.

In a quick test with some calendars at icalshare.com, I get the same error
if the path is invalid, regardless of how it try to add it. If its valid,
either webcal or http works in the dialog. So, for whatever reason, outlook
doesn't like the url you are passing it and can't find the calendar at that
location.

Hi Diane. Thanks for trying to help me, but I think you are misunderstanding
what I am trying to do. This is a private iCal server, which must be added by
going to File/Data File Management/Internet Calendars/New. All the
instructions for doing this say that you must use webcal:// not http://. The
link I am pointing to is valid, as it definitely works on other computers.

This is a new computer with Vista Premium and a fresh install of Office 2007.

Not sure where to go with this. My colleagues are not having any issues.

The error from outlook says it can't find the file - so either the url is
wrong or it can't access it.
Can you get the URL from someone who is using it in Outlook? Are you logged
into the server? If outlook can't access the server, it can't find the file.

Private or not private doesn't affect which url format you use - you can add
it in the internet calendar dialog using an http url (I did it when I tested
the urls from icalsare).
