Default i create a meeting request and the invitees is a Distribution lis

When i create a meeting request and the invitees is a Distribution list, when
the users accept the request the show up as optional attendees

When I create the meeting request I click on the TO: and select the
Distribution list as a required attendee, however when the individuals from
the DL accept the meeting request they now appear as optional attendees, the
group is still Required Attendees.
Environment: Server 2003 R2 with Exchange 2003, Windows XP with Outlook 2003.

I have been able to duplicate this on the clients machine, on my PC, on a
co-workers PC.
Can someone explain why this happens.
Thank you,

That is proper behavior. You are inviting the DL - the members of the DL
respond. If you expand the DL before sending, then it should record the
individuals.
