OE on Win XP Home
 

Hi

finally upgraded my computer to Windows XP home and am having an issue with
outlook express. I cannot see images and cannot edit or copy from the
messages.

I have IE set to fairly low security and DO NOT have plain text checked for
viewing messages.

What could be wrong??

OE on Win XP Home
 

First thing to do is visit Window Update and download/install all updates
marked as Critical for the operating system I suspect you'll find quite a
few.

OE on Win XP Home
 

Did you have an antivirus program running in the background while you were
installing the updates. Your install may well have been corrupted. Can you
save attached image files sent to you? Have you checked your computer for
malware? If not, see this link:

Ok, here is the situation. Graphics and pictures do not come through in
HTML messages. Also, I cannot copy parts of a message sent (can only select
"select all" and then copy that.

I can open attachments. I have set security to low and have allowed OE to
open potentially dangerous attachments. All recommended updates have been
downloaded and all are now installed.

This is a clean install (dual boot system with win98 on another drive).
Win XP was installed on a new drive. I am now almost exclusively using
WinXP. HTML messages download just fine in outlook 2000 (which is also on
windows XP). However, the same messages in Outlook Express do not show
(instead, there is an icon where there should be pictures or graphic files.

No antivirus program is running cause I have not installed any yet. I did
check http://aumha.org/a/noads.php and all is ok.

One more weird thing. Opening Internet Explorer (which seems to work fine)
I noticed a single letter at the top left corner. (seems like that used to
say Internet Explorer in win98) the letters vary, sometimes an A,
othertimes an M.

Please help. Would love for this system to be running right. And I do
prefer OE to outlook.

Yup, evidently when WinXP copied over the settings, it included a shortcut
to the old OE on a second drive. The fact that the two drives had different
formats (the old one, of course, FAT 32) probably didn't help the situation.
