I can receive mail, but cannot send mail. Have uninstalled all McAfee
antivirus and firewall. Have updated OE to the latest version. Not an ISP problem. I can set up the email account on another computer with OE and everything works fine. When I set up the email account on this computer, I cannot send messages. Windows XP...XP firewall is turned off also. Any other ideas. I have tried to go to safe mode, and get the same results. Error message: The connection to the server has faled. Account 'mail.comcast.net' Server 'smtp.comcast.net' Protocol SMTP Port 25 Secure SSL No Socket Error 10060 Error number 0x800CCC0E Have searched MS knowledge base with no luck. Any other ideas? |

Has this ever worked or is this a new problem on this PC? IF a new
problem, did you recently make any changes such as installing/uninstalling any software or reconfiguring the home network? Is the PC that works on the same home network? How is the problem PC connected to your Comcast cable modem? Directly to the cable modem, via a hub/router to the cable modem, or is the cable modem connected directly to another PC on your home network? -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm wrote in message ups.com... Did you come across this link in your search? http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q191687 You say that you set up the account on a different computer. Was that computer on the same premises as the computer with the problem? Here is what happens when I put an outbound port 25 block on my router: | The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'None', | Server: 'mail.pacbell.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, | Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E As you can see, that error matches yours, but for the account name and the server name. If you are blocked from your normal Comcast location, you need to do a thorough check of your computer for malicious applications. Comcast is rife with customers whose computers harbor spamming proxies, installed surreptitiously with malware. Comcast policy is to send a modem configuration file to block outbound port 25 when they identify the source of such abuse. You will need to prove that you have cleaned the computer of such an infection, then contact Comcast abuse for resolution of the block. If you are not using your normal Comcast location, are you on another connection than Comcast? Many ISPs, including AT&t (formerly SBC), Bellsouth, and Cox block outbound port 25 as a matter of course. In either case, you may still be able to send email through 'smtp.comcast.net'. Go to the Advanced tab in MS Outlook Express. Change the outbound port to 465, then check the SSL block. Be sure that you configure the server tab for "My server requires authentication". Comcast has detailed instructions for that he http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/inde...k_Express17717 -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Further suggestion - Your ISP might be the same as your friends, but if I was to use my OE settings at someone else's house, even though the owner used the same ISP, my settings for SMTP would not work because my email address and password are allied to my home phone number? You will be able to receive, but may not be able to send unless you use your friends SMTP settings. Comcast doesn't (nor most other U.S. cable HSI providers) work that way. My sister could easily use 'smtp.comcast.net' from my AT&T Yahoo! HSI connection (DSL). While U.S. DSL providers are more likely to work as yours, I could use either 'smtp.pacbell.yahoo.com', or 'smtpauth.sbcglobal.net' from her Comcast connection, as well. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
