Sending from OE using wireless
This is likely a basic inquiry that's been covered at some point,
though I don't see this specific thread. I've been dealing with this for a while. When using a wireless connection at the various locations that I work from using my laptop, I'm unable to send mail directly using OE (I've been jumping to webmail to send, but it's not effective as I work primarily using OE). I'm new to laptop/wireless realm-- I've not had trouble sending from my home wireless network set up, but I'm using my ISP's SMTP address in my OE accounts to do so. I've a friend on a Mac who is able to use an airport drop down menu that allows for choosing the current location's wireless connection anywhere she is-- I assume this changes the SMTP server address to allow for sending mail (or is the SMTP protocol bypassed with wireless?). Is there an equivalent to "airport" for a PC user? Short of manually changing the SMTP protocol in my various ONE accounts info, I've not been able to figure out how to be able to send mail directly from each location I'm at-- plus I've not had success in finding SMTP server info for the various wireless connections - I can get the IP address and other address info, but can't see what to change the SMTP location to. I'd certainly appreciate any help with this dilemma. ~Lisa |

Sending from OE using wireless
The "always connect using" is already unchecked on all my email
accounts. Sigh. |

Your ISP is not going to let you relay from another connection. See if
Norman's response helps. You need an SMTP server that will allow you to send from various connections. steve wrote in message ups.com... Is there an equivalent to "airport" for a PC user? I use an Macintosh Powerbook and Airport. It's called Location. It only manages to change the adapter setup and protocol in OS X. Before that, in Mac OS 9, Locations Manager could also changed the ISP settings and the server addresses - and could manage a lot more settings: the printer, File Sharing state, Quicktime speed, Remote Access, sound level and Time Zone. I think a Windows utility called Mobile Net Switcher 3.4 may be of help to you. It's Shareware Otherwise, doing what you are trying to do is very tedious in Windows. The smtp-server i often named something like "mail.isp-domain" and "smtp.isp-domain" I'd certainly appreciate any help with this dilemma. Good luck with it. |
