Outlook Express no Address Book
I am having the same problem with my address book in OE 6. After updating
with security patch KB911576 my address book would not load and i am getting the same error messages saying the format was wrong and that OE 6 was not configured correctly. Reading the newsgroup someone said to uninstall the patch. I went to the patch on the Microsoft update site and it says to uninstall it thru the "add & Remove" programs in control panel but that patch is not in the list of things in "add/remove" programs. Where else would it be or how can i uninstall that patch? -- Jim |

There is a box at the top of the Add/Remove page to show updates. Check it.

Thanks for the help. Got the address book back but now all of the messages
are there but only the headers. Nothing shows up in the main part of the message. Does anyone know why? -- Jim "Jim" wrote: I am having the same problem with my address book in OE 6. I believe I'm having the same problem and would like to confirm before
removing updates. When I clicke on "reply" or the address book, I get "There was an error opening this message" If I go to the address book I get "Unable to open address book. The Address Book is not installed properly." This all began to happen after the automatic update Saturday am or thereabouts. I located the update KB911701 FP5AUTOLFF and when I click...it shows the "REMOVE" button. Am I on the right track to correct this? The patch below is causing problems and must be removed until a fix is
supplied by MS. I haven't seen any report of a problem with KB911701 and don't see it in my list of updates. If you are using an OS other than XP that may be why. For information about patch KB911567, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#14 This article also applies to missing Address Books after updating. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Tom" wrote in message ... Hey Bruce:
Removing the 911567 worked as outlined but than MS auto update sensed it was missing and added it back in this morning and caused a repeat of the initial problem. I went back in, did the delete of 911567 and it's fixed again or until MS senses the bad fix isn't there and decides to auto update again! What's the fix here? Set the automatic updates not to automatically install. Then when you get
prompted for that patch, choose not to install it and then there is an option not to ask again about that particular patch which you can check. Are you running Norton or McAfee? Can you email me your address book (wab file) as an attachment, so I can test the reproducibility of this (I won't spam anyone in it G)? cheers, steve "Tom" wrote in message ... Hey Steve:
Ok auto install set to download but not auto install. Yes I use McAfee. I'm not sure how to find and send address book...is that really necessary? I was just trying to help MS debug this issue.
Make sure you turn off email scanning. That could contribute to the problem. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 steve "Tom" wrote in message ...
