Someone told me how to create a .mht file of an OE stationery for the
purpose of attaching to an email and sending to someone that doesn't have or doesn't use OE for their mail and thus cannot view the OE stationery by sending them via OE the stationery email. I apparently don't know the real purpose of .mht files (web archived pages) because they also said it was useful to create an .mht file of a web page to know what that web page looked like if the server went down or the web site page changed in the future.. since I have a web site (ymmartin.com with 8 web pages) I thought that might be useful to do so I created 8 .mht files....one for each page of my web site... However, I discovered that when I open the .mht file on my computer somehow the process changes my IE toolbar to default setting? or at least it doesn't look like I normally have it showing the address bar and on 4 lines instead of 3. I redid the view and appearance of my toolbar then opened the .mht file again and once again the IE toolbar was changed to default setting?? This is annoying to say the least and it concerns me that this is happening since I do have the toolbar locked. Despite being locked the opening of the .mht file changes the toobar... I have limited experience with .mht files and have talked to anyone else who has actual use of them before yesterday and what she said to do to view stationery doesn't work.... if you send the .mht files to a yahoo mail account you can't download it as .mht file and if you send to cox cable webmail it opens the attachment when as I understand it you were supposed to open the .mht file with Internet Explorer. What a sinkhole this .mht experience has been for me but fortunately no real harm has occurred. I am hoping that someone in this group may have knowledge that they can share with me or real user experience with .mht files. Thank you for your consideration, Yolanda |

I don't know what the toolbar changes represent.
As to what program opens the mht file, tell the users to save the attachment prior to opening it, and then make sure they open it with IE. steve "Yolanda Martin" wrote in message news:wXT0g.7327$Qz.3772@fed1read11... How do I report to Microsoft the possible bug of .mht saving.....I have IE 6
but the saved .mht file save IE 5? and as I said it changes the tool bar...if the user has address bar selected and placed after opening IE 6 with local html file in order to save as .mht file the user's toolbar is rearranged and address bar is no longer selected even though before this the toolbar is in locked status. For what it's worth, when I open a save MHT file, it opens with my
normal IE tool bar. Also be aware, that when you open a saved MHT file, you are in a different IE security zone. So different security settings apply. It would be best to post this in an IE6 newsgroup. Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with IE6 news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...er.ie6.browser You can also get to the Internet Explorer newsgroups via this web site: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.mspx There select Internet Explorer -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Yolanda Martin" wrote in message news:rr91g.8138$Qz.1155@fed1read11... In Internet Explorer, look at Tools, Internet Options, Security.
IE makes distinctions as to where the content is coming from. Based on this it allows or disallows various features. Once you've saved a web page to an MHT file,it's no longer coming from the Internet. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Yolanda Martin" wrote in message news:c8b1g.8144$Qz.3112@fed1read11... Yes, I understand. but it shouldn't be changing the view/toolbars/checked
address bar to view/toolbars/unchecked address bar when you open the .mht file? I think it might be because mht files were first appearing with IE version 5 and even though I now have IE version 6 it says on the file info of the .mht that it was saved IE version 5.... mht files are/could be useful but right now many email programs don't recognise the type....however they were designed primarily for OE mail program and do work with that......... mht files are opened by no mail program. IE is the only program that will
open them and render them correctly. steve "Yolanda Martin" wrote in message news:XXv1g.8185$Qz.564@fed1read11... Yes, I know they must be saved and then opened in IE but yahoo damages the
file and does not recognise .mht files as valid type to download and cox cable webmail doesn't even have a save attachment feature!!! The problem/bug still remains that you should be able to open a .mht file that you have created on your computer and not have it uncheck view/toolbars/addressbar after you are finished with .mht file.....try it and see if you have the same problem.....open a stationery .html file in IE then save as .mht then ope it in IE then exit and look at your IE bar and see if your view/toolbars/address is unchecked (assuming it was checked before the open of .mht).
