IP address as POP-server

I am having trouble collecting mail through POP3 from my Exchange server. Is
it imposssible to use the public IP of the server and not the name of the
mailserver as incomming mail server in Outlook Express? I do not want to set
a new MX-record for this server because other users still pop from the ISP.
The POP3 service is running on the server and both port 25 and 110 is open
in the firewall.

The IP address should work. If you can telnet to it, then OE should find
it.

As Steve said, the IP address should work as well as a name.

What error message do you get when trying to download mail?

If I understand your problem, local users can access the Exchange server
via POP3, but not users coming in via the Internet.

It may be a configuration issue on the server, See these newsgroups:

Thank you both for your suggestions. It turns out our own ISA-server was
blocking outgoing POP.
