1000 header limit
Hi.
Does anyone know of a way of downloading more than 1000 headers at a time, with some groups having more than 300,000 posts at a time this is a real pain. T.I.A |

Do you really want to read 300 000 messages? If you just want to mark the old ones as read, "Catch Up" is the command to use after you've read (or pretended to read!) the recent ones. -- David Biddulph |

Just uncheck that option.
If you don't want all 300,000, then set it to download 50 at a time before going to the NG. Go to the NG and get those 50. Then use Edit | Catch up to set it to where all messages are considered downloaded. Then uncheck the download 50 at a time, and you will then only get the newest messages. Can you give me an example of the NG that has 300,000 messages? I'd like to check it out and see how badly OE performs with such. steve "David Robinson" wrote in message ... Hi. What I do:
If you want to download newsgroups, but don't want hundreds, or thousands, of messages, you can create a message rule such as this: ToolsMessage RulesNews. Box 1: Where the message was sent more than days ago Box 2: Delete it & Stop processing more rules Box 3: Click on "Days" and choose the # of days you want. Name the rule. In ToolsOptionsRead - Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time. When you go to, or subscribe to a newsgroup, it will only download the messages for the number of days you selected. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "David Robinson" wrote in message ... I just looked and they've got 1,473,714 messages in the queue. That should give OE plenty of opportunity to show its stuff... :-) (Evil Grin (TM)) -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com |
