My husband and I have an MSN mail account that we both use, each on our own
computer. He prefers to access it via Outlook Express 6.0 and I prefer to use Hotmail. We both have Windows XP on our computers. Recently, I tried the new Hotmail Beta program for a very short time and found it difficult and slow so I switched back to original Hotmail. Now my computer is fine with either Hotmail or Outlook Express but he cannot use his Outlook Express. He can use Hotmail and it is the original version. He gets the following message: Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'MSN Mail (our )', Server: 'http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-gin/hmdata', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Redirect to partner', Port: 0, Secure (SSL): No, Error Number 0x80004005 Of course the "our address" is our actual email address - I'm just leaving it off so I don't get any spam. And I'm not sure the Beta thing has anything to do with it . . . Can anyone help us out there? This is very frustrating. Thanks! |

I forgot to add that we have the Hotmail Plus account - not just the free
version. "kls" wrote: My husband and I have an MSN mail account that we both use, each on our own computer. He prefers to access it via Outlook Express 6.0 and I prefer to use Hotmail. I suspect you will have to contact Hotmail support for help with this. Does
the web interface (www.hotmail.com) work for you? If so, it may just be a server error that will clear itself in a few hours (or days). -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Thanks for the quick responses.
Yes, Hotmail.com is working for my husband, and both Outlook Express 6 and Hotmail are working on my computer using the same email address. It is just his computer that isn't working with OE. I've also turned off the Norton email scanning, rebooted, did a system restore back to a couple of weeks ago, etc., etc., but nothing has fixed it yet. I don't think this would have anything to do with it but we access the internet via a wireless broadband connection. I hope someone has an easy solution - don't we all wish for that ;-) Thanks for all your help. "Jim Pickering" wrote: I suspect you will have to contact Hotmail support for help with this. That error usually indicates temporary problems on MSN/Hotmail's end, kls,
and the problem automagically clears up after a bit. Until that happens, he should access the account at www.hotmail.com. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org kls wrote: My husband and I have an MSN mail account that we both use, each on our own computer. Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions. We still have the same
problem but I figured out a solution (see below). I contacted Hotmail Plus Help and they said I should reconfigure my settings by adding a new mail account. I did that and it still didn't work. I got the same message as below. But I did figure a work around. We are using Windows XP which allows us to set up different user accounts for each person (Start, Control Panel, User Accounts). There are two users on my husband's computer - me and him. OE 6 worked when I accessed my user account on his computer (go figure). So I set up a new user account for him and copied his address book and folder info over to the new user name. Voila!! It now works. There must be some type of setting error or corrupt file in his old account but who cares - it now works and that's what we wanted. I hope this helps someone out there who's having the same problem. Thanks again for your quick responses - you guys are the best! Thanks for posting back. Possibly a pure coincidence (see "automagically
clears up"). You should do this in any event: IE Tools Internet Options Privacy Sites type in hotmail.com and Allow Cookies. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org kls wrote: Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions.
