'msnews.microsoft.com' is a news server (NNTP) and you are trying to
access it as a POP3 server. That doesn't work.

You need to contact your ISP for the name of their POP3 server. Enter
that information in OE at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers.

Someone at the U-Conn must know how to help. There is no email at
'msnews.microsoft.com', and it is most certainly not a POP3 server; it
is accessed through port 119, and it serves "news articles", which are
the posts you are reading here.

Hi, Candice,

You use MS Outlook Express, I see. Be careful which button you click on
to send your post; you managed to send an email to my "Reply-To:"
address. I took the liberty of forging your ID, somewhat, to place your
question in the proper place in the thread. You want to use the "Reply
Group" button (looks like a pinned note with a curved arrow), not the
"Reply" button (looks like a silhouette of a head with a curved arrow).

If your error is exactly the same as Brianna's error, you have a
misconfiguration of your client. The server, 'msnews.microsoft.com' is
_not_ a POP3 server, and you can't connect to it on port 110. It is an
NNTP server, and only accepts connections on port 119.

To configure MS Outlook Express to download email from a POP3 server,
you have to change the server name from 'msnews.microsoft.com', to the
name of your POP3 server. In the case of a GMail account, which you used
to send your email, the server name is 'pop.gmail.com'. You should
follow the instructions in this link to set up MSOE with GMail:

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...276&topic=1555

But the headers in your email tell me:

| Received: from CANDIS ( [221.6.93.106])
| by mx.gmail.com with ESMTP id 40sm1932447nzf.2006.06.03.00.35.43;

Which is a Chinese ISP in the People's Republic of China. If you are
trying to fetch POP3 email from that ISP, you will need to find out the
name of their POP3 mail server. I can't begin to guess because I don't
know the ISP.
