Using OE6. Tried to send an e-mail with an .exe attachment. OE/WindowsXP
wouldn't allow the file to be sent nor be viewable by even me, obviously for my own and my recipient's protection. Is there any way to send an .exe file as an attachment that you know is perfectly safe and virus free? Kind of outrageous that you're not even given an option to either send it or not send it. OE/WindowsXP places no restrictions on sending EXE files. If you aren't
able to send it, something else is stopping you. What error message are you getting? As for receiving, with the default settings, you cannot save/run EXE attachments. But with a simple security setting change you can. I'd recommend that you change the security setting, save the file then put the setting back. The change won't affect a message that you are currently viewing. To stop the blocking of Any attachments, see this article: Cannot Open E-Mail Attachments in Outlook Express 6 After You Install SP1 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329570 Since you've installed XP SP2, then see: Description of how the Attachment Manager works in Windows XP Service Pack 2 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883260 If your recipient is not using SP2, to adjust which types of attachments OE blocks, have him see this article: OLEXP: Using Virus Protection Features in OLEXP 6 and SP1 (OE removed access to the unsafe attachments in your email) http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291387 -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Bob Holiday" wrote in message ... In addition to what others have said, many internet service providers will
block any executables from E-Mail traffic for security reasons. Gene K |

That's correct - so zip it or change the extension to .bob

Some even block zip attachments. Often renaming will overcome that, such as
file.zip.txt and then the user can rename it from .txt to zip. steve "Jo Ann" wrote in message ... That's correct - so zip it or change the extension to .bob "Gene K" skrev i en meddelelse ... I still get a lot of people visiting my web page on how to open a zip file. The way I get round content filter restrictions is to send files using YouSendIt (http://www.yousendit.com/). It's meant for sending very big files (which it's also good at) but it is also a good way to get round the various blocks on email attachments. The PC Guru: www.the-pc-guru.com |
