Frank,
I imported the {GUID} from the new machine into the OERULES.reg file and here is what I get: --------------------------------------------------------------- Cannot import E:\OERULES.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. Willy:
Export the registry keys again from the XP machine using the "Win98/Nt" method which places a different header on the *.reg file. Just click the drop/down arrow in the file type selection box after you've named the file. After reviewing most of your replies in this thread, it seems apparent that you have little experience with registry files. For that reason, you might seriously consider looking in your neighborhood or local area for some who has more experience working with the registy. Remember that mistakes you make working in the registry can make your machine "unbootable" and that's not a prospect to try and deal with via newsgroup support. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Jim,
That did it, thanks a heap. Oh, I been working with PCs since 85 (IBM Personal PC, 8088 with no hard drive), the stroke I had in 95 just makes me unsure of some things so I err on the side of caution & ask when I'm unsure. I'm glad you sorted it out and thanks for the feedback. The changes in the
registry header info came about with Windows 2000 and XP and tend to confuse many since Windows 2000/XP files will not import/merge into earlier operating systems without some editing.
