The message rules are in the Registry. Export this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Micro soft\Outlook
Express\5.0\Rules

Before merging it into a new Identity or new machine, edit the REG file with
WordPad and change the GUID to agree with where you want to Merge it. Block
Senders is higher up in the same 5.0 key.

In your Address Book go to Help || About and it will tell ypu the name and
location of its WAB file. Move that to My Documents (or wherever you want)
on the new computer and make sure it is not Read Only (it will be if you use
a CD). Then use OE's File | Import. Or the Address Book's File | Import.

Export the registry keys again from the XP machine using the "Win98/Nt"
method which places a different header on the *.reg file. Just click the
drop/down arrow in the file type selection box after you've named the file.

After reviewing most of your replies in this thread, it seems apparent that
you have little experience with registry files. For that reason, you might
seriously consider looking in your neighborhood or local area for some who
has more experience working with the registy. Remember that mistakes you
make working in the registry can make your machine "unbootable" and that's
not a prospect to try and deal with via newsgroup support.

I'm glad you sorted it out and thanks for the feedback. The changes in the
registry header info came about with Windows 2000 and XP and tend to confuse
many since Windows 2000/XP files will not import/merge into earlier

You have to make sure that the {GUID} in OERULES.reg is the same as
the one OE is now using.

Frank,
What I did was export to my USB drive that key you referenced, I
named it OERULES, I know what the GUID is but not sure what your
telling me to do now. Sorry to be such a pain, but had a stroke 11
years ago so kinda slow to grasp things. My OE store file is in
C:\OESTORE.

You don't edit the Registry, you edit the REG file that resulted
from your export. The {GUID} is that Big, long alphanumeric number
in the store file path.

Frank, Got it exported but having hard time understanding your
statement in earlier post which read:
"Before merging it into a new Identity or new machine, edit the
REG file
with WordPad and change the GUID to agree with where you want to
Merge it. Block Senders is higher up in the same 5.0 key."
How do I edit registry using WordPad and what do you mean by
change the GUID?

Go to Start | Run and type
regedit
and press Enter.
In the left pane navigate to that key and then click File Export.
Give it any name you want and save it where you can find it (the
USB drive would be handy).

I'm glad you sorted it out and thanks for the feedback. The changes in
the registry header info came about with Windows 2000 and XP and tend to
confuse many since Windows 2000/XP files will not import/merge into
earlier operating systems without some editing. Good luck.

Jim,
That did it, thanks a heap. Oh, I been working with PCs since 85 (IBM
Personal PC, 8088 with no hard drive), the stroke I had in 95 just makes
me unsure of some things so I err on the side of caution & ask when I'm
unsure. I've modified Registries plenty of times to correct problems and
have made a few mistakes to, but my back-up has bailed me out of those
jams.

Willy:

Export the registry keys again from the XP machine using the "Win98/Nt"
method which places a different header on the *.reg file. Just click
the drop/down arrow in the file type selection box after you've named
the file.

After reviewing most of your replies in this thread, it seems apparent
that you have little experience with registry files. For that reason,
you might seriously consider looking in your neighborhood or local area
for some who has more experience working with the registy. Remember
that mistakes you make working in the registry can make your machine
"unbootable" and that's not a prospect to try and deal with via
newsgroup support.

Frank,
I imported the {GUID} from the new machine into the OERULES.reg file
and here is what I get:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Cannot import E:\OERULES.reg: The specified file is not a registry
script. You can import only registry files.
OK
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The OERULES.reg came from an WIN XP PC but the PC I'm wanting to import
to has WIN 98SE. Does that make a difference?
Oh, I did replace the {GUID} every where it showed up in the
OERULES.reg file I exported using find & replace all.
