Default hyperlink opens folder?

I have a small but irritating problem.

If I click on a hyperlink to a website a folder in my computer opens up.
I wondered if anyone knows why this is happening and how to cure it.

FYI: windows xp pro

If IE7 is installed it must be the default browser.
Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults
I hope this is fixed by the final.

Cheers Frank, yes I have installed I.E., but firefox is my default browser
so I will have to put up with this things.
