need help- how to import old inbox file

Hi Group.

Had a problem with my old hard drive. have new one now, but am looking to
restore some of my older e-mails back into the current OE6. I found the old
INBOX file with the .DBX extension. I thought I could just open the current
INBOX, click "file" and go to "import" But then I'm lost. I think the
earlier file was also in OE6 but I've tried just about all the options that
come up and even when I do enter the location of the old INBOX.DBX, I get an
error message that says:

" No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running
has the required files open. Please select another folder or try closing
applications that may have files open."

Except I don't have any other applications that would have that file open.

Any ideas? I am sure this is the file because looking into it, there are a
bunch of old .dbx files there, Drafts, Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items etc. and
the Inbox.dbx file I want to access has 60,175 KB of data, which sounds
about right.
BTW, running windows XP pro and OE6
Hope someone can help.

Thanks,

Wendy

Pls try check whether inbox.dbx is read-only option (right click the
inbox.dbx - properties).
If yes, remove the read-only and tick archive. Then try to restore your
inbox files again.

The old Inbox is either marked Read Only or it is corrupt.

Don't store messages in the Inbox. It is the folder most apt to be
corrupted. As soon as you read them move them to user created folders.
Then compact the Inbox regularly.

You can use either of these tools to extract the messages from the old DBX
file:

DBXtract ($5): http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/ although this tool is faster
and better:
DBXpress: ($25) http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx
Do NOT extract to the desktop!
With a large file this can take a long time, so let it keep running.

The messages can be dragged from a Windows folder back into an OE folder in
OE's Folder List.

If you want to view the contents of a dbx file, follow the instructions for
